Tool is a contemporary metal band with a really careacteristic, heavy, dark sound.
I like to say they are the Pink Floyd of the new era, they have this unique sound and a really twisted way to develop their songs, generating a progressive ambient that like climbing in some sort of spiral reachs to the top and explodes in light!.
Their two first albums(Opiate-1992 and Undertow-1993) had a more raw sound but since Paul Dámour´s(bass) departure in 1995 and the come of Justin Chancelor the bands sound starts getting more solid from album to album starting with Aenema in 1996, album that opened more doors to popularity containing the song Aenema wich made them won a grammy that same year.
Then in 2002 and after releasing a box set of rarities and versions under the name of salival, they release their third studio album Lateralus a very polemical album , not only for its incredible cover art designed by Alex Grey wich figures a perfect vivivsection of the human body dividing each layer in each page but also for having an alternative order for the tracks known as “the holly gift” that revealed that the album was in fact a unique track ,cutted edited and finally reordered by the band. Then in 2006 and after editing a couple of lateralus related DVD´s they come out with their latest and probably most amazing work 10,000 days, a studio album with 11 tracks and with the weirdest cover I ever seen in my whole life, also designed by Alex Grey the album has this weird estroboscopic lenses to see the boocklet images in an awesome 3D perspective, tottaly worth the buy!!.
